DEVELOP OF A SEISMIC TECHNOL AIMING AT IMPROVING THE RESOLU OF INFRASALIFEREOS HYDROCARBONS PROBLEMS IN THE MEDIT SEA

Obiettivo

The project consisted in developing a seismics method to improve knowledge of the infrasaliferous geological structures in the mediterranean. By its nature, salt results in complex geometries in the subsoil (from the salt cushion to the piercing dome), preventing conventional seismic theories from being applied in practice (both with respect to acquisition and treatment).
This study has proved that it was vain to attempt to apply the laws of geometrical optics, even in a highly sophisticated manner, for excessively disturbed geological forms.
This work has doubtless come too early. At the time, vectorial computers did not exist and one could not envisage the interactive solution of the wave equation on this scale with such accuracy.
These failures have led theorists to completely reconsider the question (the method known as deep migration before addition and the generalized inversion method); numerical analysis and data processing tests will probably in the future enable this problem to be re-examined and the data acquired reprocessed.
The initial stage consisted of acquiring three-dimensional data for reproducing isobath charts ; this could be reinjected into the digital processing system in order to reprocess this data and improve the image of the infrasaliferous horizons.
The methods developed were modelizations that assumed it could be possible in some way to perceive the base of the salt on the unprocessed documents. However when the method was actually used, it was observed that no coherent energy capable of corresponding to the base of the salt could be exploited.
Despite special dynamic corrections taking into account the radius plot programmes, no improvement in the treatment compared to conventional treatments was observed. Special treatments turned out to be too sensitive to the presumed geometry of the roof of the salt dome.
