HIGH RESOLUTION SEISMIC TESTS ON OIL FIELDS

The aim of the project is to develop a low-cost seismics method capable of reproducing geological horizons down to a depth of 1,000 metres, with a resolution in the range of 3 metres.
The work concerning the marienbronn campaign did not give the results that were hoped for. This campaign was carried out using explosive charges and a sourcile.
The seismic recordings collected at the gournay-sur-aronde site using a vibrator generating non-linear frequency sweeps yielded highly encouraging results. The resolution measured at the well was about 5 metres in layers of the reservoir lying at a depth of 800 metres, with a useful frequency spectrum ranging from 28 hz to almost 200 hz. In addition, correlations revealed a posteriori a variation in amplitude of the seismic marker in the maximum gas tickness zone and a shift of the coefficients of reflection before and after injection of gas into the storage volume.
The results of the gournay campaign have enabled the technique of acquisition of high frequencies in the field to be developed. This must now be furthered by efforts on processing, so that the resolution potential acquired in the terrain is not diluted during the data processing stage.
It is indispensable to continue this work in the field of high resolution so as to guarantee resolutions in the range of 5 to 10 metres in the oil zone (2 000 - 3 000 metres).
Using surface arrays and appropriate processing sequences, seismic signals are sent comprising a wide frequency spectrum, so as to restore the high frequencies (resolution criterion) and low frequencies (penetration criterion).
The programme of work comprise two seismic campaigns. One on marienbronn site, characterized by lens-type reservoirs, the other on the gournay-sur-aronde gas storage, characterized by reservoirs with a low dip.
