TECHNIQUES AND EQUIPMENT FOR DEEP SEA PRODUCTION

Obiettivo

This project involves study of the basic components that are implicit in any general offshore petroleum exploitation project in deep waters involving subsea wellheads, a floating production support, links between the bottom and the surface and appropriate product evacuation facilities.

The purpose of the project is to obtain the necessary engineering data, to build prototypes and to test the critical components so as to define their limits of use.

The work covered the following components and processes :

Anchorage : a prototype detector of anchor line faults was tested in the laboratory on samples of anchor cables featuring significant defects.

Riser : the hydrodynamic loads that a production riser undergoes were subjected to systematic tests on a testing tank model. The results of these tests have been analysed and the general architecture of the riser defined.

Subsurface link : while not calling the principle of the method into question, experiments conducted in 1978 on a flexible arch in the mediterranean were a failure, owing to the inadequacy of the logistic facilities and sea states that were abnormally poor for the season.

Laying and connection of a flowline : the flowline laying and connecting method studied under this contract is based on a j-configuration laying method; the method did not qualify for a demonstration test, since use of surface supports would have resulted in very high costs. A test based on amethod of towing near the bottom was preferred to it and is to take place during the first half of 1981.

Operations inside wells using the t.F.L. Technique : adaptation of the t.F.L. Technique to lines with a diameter of 4" was successfully achieved, while at the same time enabling the endurance of the equipment to be analysed and the equipment best suited to pumped-tool operations to be selected.

Electrical connectors that can be plugged-in underwater : testing of deutsch connectors was continued throughout 1980 to simulate several years of underwater operation.

Horizontal diphasic flows : laminated flow and plug flow conditions were tested in a 6" loop line. Test equipment and multimetric models were developed to enable systematic experiments to be performed.

Pollution prevention : a simulated programme of rising of oil and gas through water to the surface was tested and technical manuals on using the design programme were drafted.
