Objetivo A mobile, floatable platform which, being fixed to the sea bed, when operating can withstand the impact of ice under arctic conditions. To resist the ice pressure ground freezing technique is a flexible and economical solution to stabilize artificial islands as well as platforms under shallow or deep water.Dome concepts were examined:- caisson retained island is stabilized by a frozen ring of soil behind the caissons.- artic production and loading a toll allows considerable cost savings. The project comprised several phases:1. Preinvestigation: to determine the technical problems and the basic information.2. Conceptual designs: it was found that the aim could be achieved by applying ground freezing technology to the purpose. Several designs were produced: A) a monocone platform with a conical foot and a central shaft filled with sand, laying on an artificial island to which is applied ground freezing technology. B) a monocone platform with possibility to disengage the platform from the foundation body. Foundation body lies on a concrete ring or a ring of soil which is frozen. C) a monocone-type platform with storage facilities inside the platform foundation. D) a semi-circular breaking body (concrete or steel caissons) on a sand berm, with a movable jack-up platform. In the course of the project a cooperation was started with dome Petroleum which involved the following activities:3. Soil investigations about shear and liquefaction of frozen and unfrozen soils.4. Investigation of the use of freezing with caisson retained island5. Investigation of freezing the dams of the "arctic production and loading atoll" concept.
