Objetivo To develop a completely integrated floating production system, designed for optimal development of small North Sea fields. This study developed a design for a low cost, lightweight, unsophisticated semi-submersible production only vessel without drilling capability. The vessel study addressed vessel size reduction, limiting motions, on-board storage, seabed loading, buoy loading downtime, rigid and flexible riser design and analysis, mooring systems with and without winches, and optimisation of deck layout.Studies were carried out on the subsea equipment, templates, clusters, test loops, drilling programme, wellheads and trees, field configuration development, detailed field layout planning and maintenance and protection philosophy. Three basic field layouts were studied, with variations in location of production and injection wells commensurate with the mooring line pattern determined by the riser restraints. The various manifold and small cluster systems were assessed both from the technical and early flow aspects. A performance simulation programme was developed to aid in the quantification of theproduction efficiency of the subsea systems and to optimise their design. The project set out to develop a design of a semi-submersible to be purpose orientated for production to overcome the incompatibilities of converted drill rigs and to investigate the possibility of reducing downtime due to environmental conditions by optimising the column stabilising characteristics in association with innovative technology in riser and mooring systems for semi-permanent location without the need for transit considerations. The study includes the investigation of subsea templates and manifolds with the associated control and instrumentation systems, clustering of satellite wells and the problems of commingling of production flow. Various configurations for the fpf have been considered, e. g. Producer only, driller and producer, producer with simultaneous work-over, producer with consecutive workover all with or without storage and a comparison made of the economic viability of these various alternatives.
