REPAIR SEA TRIALS ON DEEPWATER PIPELINES - [PHASE 3]

Objective

To incorporate to the S. A. S. (Stazione Autonoma Sottomarina - Automatic Repair System) modifications and improvements derived from experiences gained during deepwater test campaign in 350 m waterdepth carried out in spring-summer 88. The final goal is to have available a rugged, efficient, reliable system to on bottom repair sealines laid in 650 m waterdepth. The system is designed for 20" - series pipelines, concrete and polyethylene coated.
The complete system has been tested in dry conditions and some modules tested in shallow water (10 m). Deepwater trials have been executed in contract OG./00020/91.
The S. A. S. system is composed of different "service Modules" but the ones requiring important modifications (EEC financially supported) are :
1) surface handling system (heave compensator, cables lashing device, additional automations)
2) pipe preparation and cutting module (additional tools to clear worksite from fallen concrete shells, more powerful jacks for concrete removal, additional emergencies)
3) Thruster Module (Improvement of the Acoustic Navig. System, Telemetry System, and some ROV Modification).
4) Base Frame and Hydraulic press interface (Software modifications, alignment system modifications, electronic system rearrangement)
5) Study of a new mechanical connector forged on polyethylene - coated pipe.
