STORAGE OF LOW TEMPERATURE LIQUIFIED GASES IN CLAY

Ziel

To demonstrate the feasibility of an underground cryogenic storage in clay for liquefied gas.
The feasibility of such is demonstrated. This technique is applicable for the storage of lpg (-45 deg. C.) in any of rock and for lng (-162 deg. C.) for boom clay type formations.
The project is devided in several phases:
1. Laboratory test in clay to appreciate the technical feasibility of the test plant:
2. To design, built and operate a test gallery in boom clay. The 200 m3 test gallery is to be built in boom clay at schelle near antwerpen (belgium):
3. To interprete the results of the test gallery and conclude on the feasibility of an industrial plant in clay.
