CONSTRUCTION, EXPLOITATION AND EVALUATION OF A 1 MW WIND TURBINE FOR ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION

Ziel

A 1 MW, 45 m diameter wind turbine, will be constructed by HMZ based on the experience gained from the 22 m Windmaster wind turbine, in order to improve the technology and investigate the productivity and reliability of a large wind turbine.
The estimated annual yield at the site of installation at Zeebrugge is 1400 MWh.

HMZ will construct a 1 MW, 45m diameter wind turbine based on the experience gained from the 22m Windmaster wind turbine. The site of the installation will be in the region of Zeebrugge where the annual average windspeed is 6,5m/s. The wind turbine will be grid connected and the estimated annual yield is 1400 MWh.
It is a horizontal axis, 2 bladed, upwind wind turbine with variable pitch control of half the length of each blade. The blades are made from glass-fiber reinforced polyester. The 1 MW, synchronous generator is placed on the top of a 60m soft tower. The cut-in speed is 6m/s, the rated speed 16 m/s, the cut-out speed 25 m/s and the maximum design speed 65 m/s.
The estimated cost of KWh is 6,48 Bf/KWh. It has to be noted that if the wind turbine was installed in California, the annual yield would be 2000 MWh, the cost of energy produced would be 4,76 Bf and finally the payback would be 9 years.
