Objetivo To reduce the investment cost and improve the economical viability of decentralised electricity production by means of a hybrid wind-diesel system in order to obtain valiable data on reliability, efficiency and economy. It can be achieved by optimizing the control system for stand-alone applications.System in operation since June 1989. Initial results are very encouraging.A 10 m diameter, 30 kW horizontal axis wind turbine, model PEUI 10/2, constructed by GESA was installed at Palma de Mallorca and was combined to a 27 kW diesel generator forming an autonomous system. The energy generated will fed a small network of users located 2,5 Km from the main grid and not connected to it. The wind turbine has an induction generator which is connected to the rotor through a planetary gearbox. Operational wind speeds of the wind turbine are between 4 and 25 m/s. The blades are made by glassfiber and are fixed on the main shaft. The nacelle is located on the top of a 12 m high tubular tower. An active yawing system alignes the wind turbine with the average wind direction. An appropriate designed central system regulates the whole wind-diesel system in order to achieve maximum reliability and optimal operation.
