ELECTRICITY GENERATION BY WIND TURBINE AT BONAIRE ISLAND

Cel

A BOUMA 250 kW wind turbine will operate in parallel with the 8,8 MW diesel fired grid of the Bonaire island of the Netherlands Antilles, in order to save diesel fuel. Thus a wind turbine of that size will be tested at the windregime of the Netherlands Antilles. Also technical experience will be gained by the combination of the wind turbine with the diesel generators. The estimated annual yield is 360.000 kWh.

A NEDWIND 250 KW will be installed on the island Boraine (Netherlands Antilles). It is an upwind, 3 bladed, 24.5 m diameter wind turbine with a cut in speed of 5 m/sec and a cut out windspeed of 25 m/sec, with an asynchronous generator. By means of an AC/DC/AC convertor it will provide energy which will be fed to the total 8,8 MW diesel fired grid. The cost per energy unit output is 0,32 DFL while the conventional cost is 0,50 DFL. The estimated annual yield is 360.000 KWh which corresponds to an annual saving of diesel fuel of 80 TOE. There are future plans for an enlargement of the installed power of the island based on diesel and wind generators, if this project finally turns out to be as successful as expected; subject to approval during the demonstration phase.
