AN INTEGRATED ENERGY DESIGN OF A BREWERY TO REDUCE ENERGY COSTS

Ziel

To demonstrate :
- The recovery of CO2, from the exhaust gases of a gas-fired boiler, by a unique method in Europe, that will be of a Standard permissible in the traditional beverage industry.
- The application of Hydro-Cooler/Ice-Bank technology, to replace two refrigeration cycles with one, in a brewery.
- Electrical load spreading and profile flattening to accommodate a cogeneration plant.

CARBON DIOXIDE RECOVERY PLANT
In a Brewery the largest source of carbon dioxide available is from the boiler exhaust containing as much as 15%. The technique to be demonstrated will recover in excess of 95% of the available CO2, to food-grade quality.
At the present the brewery purchase carbon dioxide from outside sources in the main. With the advent of Natural Gas on the site the Brewery, using this technique, can recovery CO2 from the sulphur-free gases of the steam boiler.
The technique was developed by the low Chemical Company in the U.S.A. for commercial purposes and licensed to the Wittermann Company.
CHILLED WATER/ICE STORAGE PLANT
The application of Hydro-Cooler/Ice-Bank technology, replacing two refrigeration cycles with one, is completely new in a Brewery. The technique will even out the electrical load profile to accommodate a cogeneration plant.
As cooling is a subtantial load, the application of this technology will reduce the cost of this load by approaching 50%.
Thetechnique was developed by Integrated Energy Systems Ltd.
