FAST CONVERSION OF ABATTOIR OFFAL AND LIGNO-CELLULOSE WASTE INTO COMPOST

Objectif

To construct a composting plant to produce 1690 t/y of compost from 3700 t/y of crushed slaughterhouse wastes and agricultural lignocellulosic wastes.

The installation will valorise the 3000 t/y of slaughterhouse wastes of the Bayonne abattoir by a new aerobic fermentation process.
The waste is crushed then mixed with 700 t/y of corn stalks to a density of 600 kg per m3 and fed in a thermophilic (70 deg. C) and self pasteurizing process in an engineered flat cylindrical silo of 206 m3.
The waste flows from top to bottom in 7 days. 600 m3 of air per hour are injected at the bottom through a perforated floor.
The stabilized matter needs post-maturation to yield compost and rise its dry matter content from 33 to 50 %. The overall system is innovative and will in this particular case save 202 toe/y.
