Objective
A proposal for three submersible vertical compact turbine/generator (flygt) units. The units are installed in a flat-shaped siphon to reduce cost of civil structures and to allow turbining a large flow of 29 cums with only 3,5 m of net head.
The proposed layout would also avoid the need to arrange the sludge gates in front and behind the turbines.
Expected annual energy output : 3 500 000 kWh.
The vacuum pump runs about seventy seconds. The generator reaches the synchronism frequency and is connected to the national grid.
The vacuum pump stops and the remaining air is transported away by the water once the flow is initiated. The nominal power is reached at once. To stop the turbine generator the siphon is deprimed in about three seconds by admitting air through a 350 millimetre siphon-breaker butterfly-valve.
The noise level during this short depriming phase is not a nuisance. The running of the three turbines is practically inaudible.
Winter production to national grid : 1 067 040 kWh (4104 hours) which is 260 kW by generator over an expected net head of 3,60 m.
Technical data :
hn = 3,50 m, max. q = 29 cums, p. max = 3 x 270 = 810 kW
1) Three submersible compact "FLYGT" turbine generators installed in a new flat-shaped siphon
2) In a low head hydro-power station
3) This technology enables a total cost of 8 594 000 FF.
