OFFSHORE FLEXIBLE HOSES

Objetivo

Planning of offshore hose through the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) , reducing the experimentation time and optimising the structure for the single application.
The three dimensional FEA method for model examination was successfully worked out. The tank for dynamic tests was used with good results. At the end of this period of research we unfortunately have to conclude that the success of the work undertaken has only been pastial and the goals set have not been reached in the period of time established.
Difficulties were encountered during calibration of measuremtntent system and in the interpretation of strain valves.
Results obtained up to now are, however, of great interest and we see possibilities of applying some of the structural modifications suggested by our tests to the produced material. The studies will be continued outside this research contract.
1. Design and construction of a test tank for experimental models
. 2. Preparation of some structures in 1/3 scale in respect to full size scale.
3. Static and dynamic tets on models with collection of data on behaviour.
4. Realization of a mathematical model for the various structures
. 5. Simulation of tests mentioned under point 3.
6. Comparison between experimental data and calculation results .
7. Improvement of the mathematical model through iteration of points 3-4-5-6.
8. Extrapolation of 1/3 model to full size through realisation of a prototpype.
9. Practical test of the prototype.
10. Final adjustment of the mathematical model to be used for new projects.
