HYDROCARBON PRODUCTION-SYSTEMS IN ARTIC WATER

Obiettivo

This research project is aimed at studying the feasibility of hydrocarbon production systems for Arctic waters and their preliminary design.
Main results can be summarized as follows:
- Acquisition of environmental conditions or Arctic and Sub-Arctic
offshore areas.
- Acquisition of different formulation in evaluating the loads due to
the static or almost static and dynamic ice-structure interaction.
- Identification of possible problems on platforms in earthquake conditions
and methodologies to be used in seismic analysis in arctic conditions.
- The most promising Arctic offshore exploitation scenarios have been
identified and design premises for feasibility studies have been performed
- In feasibility studies the following three different production systems
have been identified feasible :
. RAP (Removable Arctic Platform) for Arctic seas (Beaufort and Russian
Barents sea) characterized by water depths in the range of 25-80 metres and
severe ice conditions
. TSG (Tecnomare Steel Gravity) platform for Sub-Arctic areas (Bering and
Okhotsk seas) characterized by water depths in the range of 20-60 meters
with severe seismic and moderate ice conditions.
. FPS (Floating Production Systems) for Sub-Arctic seas (South-East Canada
and Barents seas) characterized by iceberg and severe environmental
conditions.
- Design premises for preliminary design of a fixed steel gravity platform
for Okhotsk Sea and floating production system for South East Canada have
been performed.
- A procedure for Ice Management have been identified.
- A seismic analysis procedure have been developed.
- Preliminary analysis of TSG concept for shallow water areas has been
performed.
- Preliminary analysis of FPS for Sub-Arctic seas has been performed
following the Ice Management Approach.
- Economical analysis for both TSG and FPS has been performed to define
conditions of interest for applications.
The project is divided in 2 phases :
- The first include : A) Analysis of the basic problems posed by Artic, such as the definition of the environmental data, the ice/structure and ground/structure interactions; B) Feasibility studies of some production systems suitable for the most interesting areas.
- The second phase includes preliminary design of some production systems identified in feasibility studies.
