CONSTRUCTION AND ASSEMBLY TECHNIQUES FOR STEEL PLATFORMS IN DEEP WATER

Objetivo

Purpose of the present research project is the sudy of both the basic problems and the procedures concerning the construction, assembling, transportation phases of the fixed offshore platform in 350 m W.D.
The results are in accordance with the aim of the project and are now available to third parties.
The tripod configuration developed has the following characteristics :
- it is the only tripod concept developed that can be directly assembed at the field site without need of a sheltered deep water site;
- can be installed over a pre-drilled template.
Following main results have been achieved :
- development of a computer procedure for the dynamic linear analysis of a multi body floating system;
- procedure for the design of sandwich type and shell stiffned cylinder under external pressure and axial loads;
- evaluation of fatigue behaviour and evaluation of residual life with Fracture Mechanic Analysis;
- development of a computer procedure for the stochastic fatigue analysis of the main components of offshore structures;
- development of a computer program for the evaluation of construction schedule and costs for offshore structures;
- naval basin model tests of the main critical stages of the tripod marine operations.
The project is subdivised into four phases with the following tasks :
- analysis of basic platform components and calculation programs;
- evaluation of alternative tripod configuration and their construction and marine operations implication to select the most promising concepts;
- definition of the selected concepts and definition of construction, assembly and installation procedures;
- development of a computer program for the definition of construction schedule and costs. The project was completed within November 1988.
