Cel The present step of the NAUTILUS Project represents evaluation and design engineering together with optimization tests in the drive to develop the concept of a subsea multiphase electrical booster system.This new technology, when qualified, will play a key role in offshore production due to the economical impact on deep water and satellite field developments; it will also substantially increase the potential of exploitable reserves. Furthermore, each key-component of the system, particularly the electrical chain when evaluated, could be exploited for many kinds of subsea applications.The present step is based on a 19 month schedule for an estimated cost of 29,5 MFF.Key components as bearing seals and lubricant, buffer inserts, motor insulation, cable architecture, sensors and associated signals, connectors have been optimized. Requirement for subsea optoelectrical modem identified.Many components of the future station are a result of recent R&D programmes; they have been either individually validated (pump, connector, buffertank) or are at the final stage of their development (subsea motor).- Electrical systemA variable frequency drive is selected to respond effectively to multiphase production, the power transmission and control is performed in a sinusoidal mode from a platform through a single cable, subsea high voltage electrical connectors will allow easy retrieval.- Pumping systemFor subsea application, an helico axial pump has been selected against a twin screw pump type; a buffer tank will have a capacity to cope with flow conditions; simple internals are kept to a minimal.- Control systemThe use of optical communication is preferred in the presence of high level of electrical harmonics which are inevitable generated by the electrical system. Existing subsea control systems require upgrading to withstand the high levels of electrical harmonics;the response time required needs to be significantly faster than that required for current subsea hydrocarbon production facilities.- Modules systemSimplicity and reliability are the main targets for any subsea production system, size and weight will be optimized for easy retrieval and maintenance. The system is designed for diverless and guidelineness installation and intervention in a North Sea environment so as to enable deep application to be performed.
