THE DEVELOPMENT OF SENSITIVE METHODS FOR DETECTION OF, AND THE OPTIMIZATION OF ADMINISTRATION AND DETERMINATION OF RESIDUE KINETICS OF THERAPEUTIC CHEMICALS FARMED SALMONIDS

Objetivo

The project is designed to provide standard, validated High Performance Liquid Chromatography and Bioassay methods for detecting various therapeutic substances in fish muscle tissue. The target substances are Oxytetracycline,Amoxycillin, the Quinolones, the Potentiated sulfonamides, Ivermectin, and Dichlorvos. This section is central to the investigation of optimum uptake and residue kinetics in the remainder of the project. The determination of the optimum mode of oral administration of chemoterapeutants will be investigated initially in laboratory held fresh water salmon smolts. Subsequently, optimisation of administration will be investigated in a fresh water hatchery. The strategy for optimisation will be to vary the feed regime, antibiotic concentrations, and feed type. Optimised feed regimes will be investigated in, salmon growers in marine site. These fish will also be used to determine residue kinetics in the final phase of the project. The target substances for this section are: Amoxycillin, Oxytetracycline, the Quinolones and the Potentiated sulfonamides. The determination of withdrawal times will be investigated for all the substances in growers in marine site. Optimised feed regimes will be used subsequently to treat outbreaks of disease where possible. It is envisaged that the methodologies design and residue kinetics will facilitate the formation of EC standards.
