Periodic Reporting for period 1 - SmartDesalt (Smart Pressure Vessel for water desalination with reverse osmosis membranes)

The feasibility study aims to solve the following objectives:
1. Detect any weak point regarding commercial, technical and financial aspects within the SmartDesalt project.
Technical:
The current stage of development was analyzed in order to identify the following milestones and technical objectives to be performed in order to complete the project. Three main objectives were set to complete and achieve commercialization stage:
1. Build an industrial prototype that meets the certification requirements of the ASME and NSF/ANSI standard 61 as well as the CE marking.
2. Adapt detection algorithm to full-scale 8-inch pressure vessel
3. Test the industrial prototype in operating desalination plants. At the same time to perform previous objectives, several sub tasks were defined and listed in the section preparation of the execution plan to achieve TRL 9.
Commercial:
Within this section the following actions were done:
1. A freedom to operate analysis was made in order to identify existing patents that could affect our business model.
2. An in depth market analysis to prioritize according the market value the beast each potential final user and the best region.
3. A sales strategy was defined as well as a sales plan and a promotion and dissemination plan.
Financial:
Within this section a payback period analysis as well as a profit&loss account is shown in order to prove the financial viability of the company as well as the product.
During the reporting period, the following activities were performed:
1. With the objective to have a final partner to test our prototype an initial approach with the company Abengoa Water has been performed, in addition to the companies already with existing intention letters (Mekorot, GE power and water, etc.).
2. The definition of the human machine interface (HMI) requirements, in order to be implemented with our monitoring system was performed.
3. The activities established in the presented feasibility study were carried.
The current results for each activity are the following:
1. An intention letter from Abengoa water, where the intention to test our prototype within their facilities.
2. The final definition of the HMI.
3. A final SmartDesalt`s feasibility study.
The expected final results from this project are to take our current prototype to a final TRL9, to be used in water desalination plants. The SmartDesalt project aims to contribute to reduce the required economic resources by saving about 60% and 15% in operative expenses (OPEX) and capital expenses (CAPEX) respectively to the end user.
