High Voltage Direct Current Distribution Electrical Master Box

Project description

High-voltage power-management hub to optimise aircraft electrical systems

Power distribution units are advanced electrical systems designed to manage and distribute power efficiently and safely throughout aircraft. The EU-funded HVEMB project plans to develop advanced power-distribution units based on a new generation of high-voltage communication devices. Innovative components include a modular high-voltage direct current (HVDC) platform with reusable parts, new failsafe HVDC contactors, arc fault detectors and adapted sensors for the IT grounding system. The demonstrator is expected to yield over 15 % weight savings, 20 % volume reduction and 65 % reduced development time compared to previous designs. The HVDC technology is suitable for emerging applications such as unmanned aerial vehicles and electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, placing European companies at the forefront of the market.

Objective

This document adress the LEACH International Europe proposal to the HVDC electrical master box (HVEMB) for the Cleansky 2 helicopter demonstrator in the scope of CS2-2014-CFP01-FRC-02-08 call.

LIE’s objective through this project is to develop the next generation of Power Distribution Unit based on a new generation of high voltage commutation devices, themselves based on electromechanical and electronic switching components.
