Progressive loss in bone density is the silent epidemic of the 21st century. This is a natural process whereby bone resorption dominates against new bone mineralization, resulting in a progressive disruption of bone architecture and increased fracture risks. The process normally starts after turning 30 years old and comprises three different stages: disruption grow for normal (low risk of fracture), osteopenia (medium) to osteoporosis (high), the severest scenario. To date, there is a wide range of treatments for people with an established osteoporosis, however, this medication is only used in those cases that meet the criteria of high risk of osteoporosis, due to their adverse side effects and low cost/efficiency.
With GeoBone, we will be the first to develop a new natural product line of mineral supplements with proven benefits for bone health, especially indicated for osteoporosis prevention. The base-product is a Silica-rich liquid extracted and purified from Icelandic geothermal water with no added chemicals. The project will be oriented towards obtaining the following main objectives:
● Product specification and technology optimization.
● Obtaining certificates and standards for health claims (EFSA)
● Development of a consolidate commercial network to guarantee the sales in the worldwide food supplement market

GeoBone will be the first silica-rich supplement composed by 100 % natural silicon with approved EFSA health claims, guaranteeing an efficient osteoporosis prevention, as well as other related human diseases that affect to joints, nails, hair or skin. GeoBone will have a huge impact reducing the costs for the application of this technology by its first year of commercialisation, guaranteeing enormous health benefits to end-users and allowing a huge growth for our company (+10.5 M EUR revenue and +20 new employees at the fifth commercialisation year).
