Project description DEENESFRITPL Environmentally friendly and healthy chickpea protein is on the horizon Consumers are increasingly turning to plant-based proteins whether due to dietary preferences or restrictions or to support reduction in greenhouse gas emissions associated with cattle farming. Soy is a popular alternative, but most soy is genetically modified, which is a growing consumer concern. The Israeli SME InnovoPro has developed a patented chickpea protein that can be easily integrated in food products, reduces or removes the need for various emulsifiers and other artificial ingredients, and is environmentally friendly. The EU-funded CHICKPRO70 project is helping the team fine-tune their work with test clients, prepare for scale-up and optimise the business plan. Show the project objective Hide the project objective Objective "InnovoPro has developed a new protocol enabling the commercialisation of chickpea protein as a new food ingredient (patent US 2013-0196028). We expect this product to take a relevant share of the growing plant-based protein market which is expected to reach a market size of USD 7.14b by 2021. The chickpea protein provides the food industry with a unique protein source which can easily be integrated in food products, reduces or removes for the need for various emulsifier and other artificial ingredients and is highly environmental friendly. This makes the chickpea protein an alternative for artificial emulsifiers and alternative for the heavily used soy protein which, amongst others is a GMO crop. InnovoPro can also compete with pea protein which is becoming more popular but has drawbacks which make integration in food more difficult. We expect the commercialization phase of the InnovoPro chickpea protein to start in 2019, when the product will be launched as a premium ingredient. We have the attention of leading European food producers several of which are currently testing our samples and developing prototypes of food products with “InnovoPro inside"". Our operational team is highly experienced as is our board and circle of external advisors and we aim to use this SME Phase 1 project to further organize the work with our existing test-clients, develop a detailed scale-up plan, professionalize our market research and lead identification and, last but not least, organized our (financial) business planning to support our expected market entrance and growth from 2018 through 2023.
