Project description
Groundbreaking ultra-short pulse laser technology will reshape surface texturing
The EU-funded PROMETHEUS project aims to bridge the existing gap between niche and mainstream applications for high-power, ultra-short pulse lasers used in surface processing. Researchers are investigating the best approaches to deliver a broad range of surface functionalities onto metals, polymers and ceramics through a laser-based processing methodology called direct laser interference patterning (DLIP). PROMETHEUS is expected to deliver unprecedented surface texturing speeds and enable high-resolution features with minimal heat impact on work pieces.
