Advanced and versatile PRInting platform for the next generation of active Microfluidic dEvices

Project description

An enlightened contactless microfluidics lab-on-a-chip made possible with 4D printing

Gone are the days of test tube racks on lab countertops. Microfluidic chips that fit in the palm of your hand can have millions of microchannels. Akin to the way photonics-integrated chips have brought all associated functions into a monolithic and easy-to-print device, the key to growth in the microfluidics market will be bringing current associated off-chip equipment onto the chips in an affordable and scalable manufacturing process. The EU-funded PRIME project is addressing this challenge harnessing a combination of 4D printing and light to actuate pumps and valves and read embedded sensors. The compact and cost-effective platform will enable broad access to microfluidics.
