Project on Exercise for Fatigue Eradication in Advanced Breast cancer to improve quality of life

Project description

Exercise against breast cancer fatigue

The rate of early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer has remarkably improved over the years. But up to 40 % of patients develop metastases. Further improvement in treatment of metastatic breast cancer (MBC) has succeeded in extending the life of patients. However, MBC patients suffer from harmful side effects such as fatigue, pain, nausea and vomiting, insomnia, dyspnoea, and emotional, social and cognitive dysfunction. The most common treatment-related side effect is fatigue, which negatively affects patients’ quality of life. The EU-funded PREFERABLE project will contribute to improvement of MBC treatment by increasing quality of life. The project will use a non-pharmacological intervention combining supervised and unsupervised app-based exercise producing evidence of its beneficial effect on MBC side effects.
