New simulation software to reduce time to market for train-to-ground communication systems

The EU-funded EMULRADIO4RAIL project is developing a new wireless communication system for trains that will integrate several radio access technologies, including Wi-Fi, GSM-R, LTE, LTE-A and 5G. This reconfigurable testing tool will combine modern approaches, such as hardware in the loop and software in the loop, to mimic railway environment scenarios efficiently. These scenarios include degraded modes, outages, network overload, interferences and other perturbations. The emulator will interface with the train-to-ground communication prototypes at IP layer. Radio access emulation technologies could reduce the complexity and costs of testing and validating these prototypes on site.
