Scanning for space objects from space with more durable 'fingerprint' devices

Detectives rely on fingerprints to uniquely identify suspects. When it comes to identifying molecules in biological samples or in space, terahertz spectroscopy analysing the unique wavelengths representative of molecules and their vibrations provides the 'fingerprints'. Terahertz spectroscopy reveals the mysteries of the universe, including the origin and evolution of galaxies and black holes. Advancing the performance and reliability of terahertz detectors for deployment in deep space environments to get a closer 'look' at all this history is the focus of the EU-funded TURANDOT project.
