Project description

Caring for Europe’s elderly

The post-war baby boomers will be aged 66 to 83 by 2030. According to European demographic data, this will increase the proportion of people aged 65 and over from 17.4 % to 25.6 %, placing significant demands on healthcare systems. The sustainability of long-term care, especially for the disabled elderly, is now at stake. The EU-funded LTCpolicies initiative will investigate how the design of long-term care policies affect the use of care at both the individual level and across population groups. It will also examine the downstream effects that long-term care may have on health and healthcare use in general.
