Project description

English EN

Blockchain technology to fight olive oil fraudsters

Your extra-virgin olive oil could be fake. It may have been diluted with low-quality and chemically refined oil or with oil that will be rotten by the time they reach consumers. The business of counterfeit olive oil in the European Union has grown rapidly, and inspections and fines cannot solve the problem. The EU-funded STOPTHEFRAUDINOLIVEO project is developing a blockchain-based product to act as a digital seal, allowing consumers to use their smartphones to easily detect counterfeit bottles. The project will reach out to olive oil products and associations in Europe to present them with the Olive Oil Digital Seals and explain how they can beat scammers.
