Project description

English EN

Research for better life expectancy in ageing people

The ageing of the population represents a key issue in our societies and has social, health and economic dimensions. Improving their quality of life and maintaining independent living capabilities are important targets. The EU-funded MIA-Portugal project aims to create a Centre of Excellence called the Multidisciplinary Institute of Ageing (MIA), a unique research institution in Southern Europe. The University of Coimbra in Portugal, which has experience in Biology of Ageing, will be at the centre of the initiative. The purpose is to study healthy living and improve the life expectancy of the elderly via actions that improve services and create a new highly-qualified labour market.
