Regulation of DNA methylation in early embryo development

Mammalian DNA methylation is a process essential for normal development and gene regulation where methyl groups are added to the DNA molecule to change its activity. Despite significant progress, many important details of its role in early development remain obscure. This EU-funded project aims to dramatically improve our understanding of the role methylation plays in embryo post implantation development using cutting-edge methods for single cell mapping of methylation and gene expression. Researchers will implement their own novel reporter system of monitoring cells based on locus-specific DNA methylation in combination with site-specific methylation tools and in vitro differentiation technology to decipher the role of this process in early development in mammals.
