How Work Organizations Shape Ethnic Stratification across Immigrant Generations: Assimilation, Segregation, and Workplace Contexts

Project description

A closer look at immigrants at work

The arrival of immigrants in the EU presents a serious challenge for European societies. However, there is a dearth in literature concerning the role businesses and workplace environments can play in combatting labour market inequalities. The knowledge of how work organisations are connected to economic assimilation is limited due to the unexploited linked employer-employee (LEE) data. The EU-funded OrgMIGRANT project considers workplaces as central fields where dynamics of ethnic stratification are developed at the micro level and aims to expose how work organisations affect and change ethnic stratification standards among immigrant generations. The project will use advanced data techniques to study segregation at the workplace and identify how and why immigrant-native inequalities vary by organisational context.
