Depictions of Ottoman Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem

The EU-funded MOBILESITES project covers a researcher mobility training programme for three years and the research project ‘Mobilising Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem: Representations of the Islamic Holy Sites in the Ottoman Empire’. Specifically, it will support researcher training at the University of Michigan’s Department of History of Art, the Asia-Africa-Institute of Hamburg University (Department for History and Culture of the Middle East), and the Museum of Islamic Art in Berlin to improve career development and research experience. Work will include the production of a scholarly book as well as research and preparation of conferences, improving teaching skills (hereunder e-teaching, linguistic, codicological and epigraphic skills), and curatorial training.
