Project description
A closer look and salt and drought stresses
Nearly every aspect of plant physiology and metabolism is impacted by salt and drought stresses. Water scarcity and high salinity are two major factors limiting the geographical locations suitable for growing crop and horticultural plants. They also, periodically, account for significant losses in plant productivity. The biosynthesis and delivery mechanisms of newly synthesised lipid species towards the appropriate subcellular membranes are key aspects of the drought and salt stress processes. What is the role of the complex SYT1/SYT5/CLB1 (Ca-dependent lipid binding protein 1)? The EU-funded PLISUS project will answer this question. To do so, the project will use a combination of mutant analysis, cellular biology, lipidomics and biochemical approaches.
