Heat transport equipment becomes more effective thanks to pulsating heat pipes

There is an increasing need for smaller, faster and lighter microelectronic devices in the heat transport equipment sector. To address this need, pulsating heat pipes (PHP) represent a solution. However, the use of PHP has been limited so far, due to an insufficiency of design tools. The EU-funded POTPLOS project aims to create a universal model to predict the operating limit of PHP and provide an optimal design solution that will maximise PHP heat transport capability. Eventually, the project will help to strengthen European research and industrial leadership and to promote the use of PHP in several industrial applications (aerospace, automotive and energy sectors).
