Internal sensing technologies to estimate battery states
Deeper understanding of internal battery processes is needed to allow more accurate control and assessment of battery lifetime. The EU-funded SENSIBAT project will develop a sensing technology for Li–ion batteries that measures in real time the internal cell temperature, pressure, conductivity, and impedance. This information is useful for the development of advanced battery state assessment functions, which allows a more accurate control and increases the performances of the battery throughout its whole lifetime. The project’s methodology will develop the required battery cell sensor technology and integrate this technology into 1Ah and 5Ah pouch battery cells. It will incorporate 5Ah cells in a 24V battery module with BMS, use the data from the internal sensing technologies to develop advanced state estimation functions and perform a cost–benefit analysis.
