Project description
Keeping costs low by swapping slots between airlines
Airlines struggle with increased cost pressure from a growing number of market participants and market needs for affordable and accessible air travel. With this in mind, the EU-funded SlotMachine project will investigate the allocation of Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) slots, which are issued by the EUROCONTROL Network Manager during times of increased flight traffic. The slots regulate time of departure and landing, as well as the flight route. Up to now, airlines have been able to swap these ATFM slots between their own flights. This project will use blockchain technology to extend the swapping between different airlines. It will allow for secure transactions without the need to disclose confidential information about the cost structure of their flights.
