New algorithms for a good night’s sleep
Insomnia, the inability to fall or stay asleep, is reported to be affecting one in three people on a regular basis. Treatment frequently involves sleep-inducing medication, but positive lifestyle changes may also alleviate symptoms. With so many digital health devices and apps to provide feedback and help people track sleep, the market for sleep improvement is definitely growing. With this in mind, the EU-funded INSOMNIA AID project is developing a way to help people assess not only the quantity but also the quality of their sleep. Specifically, new assessment algorithms will enable people to measure and improve the quality of their sleep, in addition to providing a toolbox for doctors treating insomnia, paving the way for new, lasting and effective solutions.
