Quantum information processing with complex polyatomic molecules

Furthering fundamental understanding of complex quantum systems and fully harnessing their technological potential is one of the greatest scientific challenges. The quest to build a quantum information processor has triggered unprecedented efforts to control and characterise quantum system dynamics. The EU-funded QCOSMO project aims to further investigate and harness the computational potential of a novel trapped ion system with complex individual constituents: polyatomic molecules. The research should tackle the long-standing challenge of controlling and characterising single polyatomic molecules at the quantum level. The new quantum control techniques could render polyatomic molecules coupled to trapped ions as a versatile platform for future quantum technologies.
