High-performance miniaturised sensors for aeroacoustic measurements

The EU-funded AEROMIC project targets the development of innovative sensor technology for aeroacoustic measurements based on high-performance microelectromechanical system (MEMS) microphones and a compact smart sensor surface. The piezoelectric and piezoresistive MEMS microphones will demonstrate superior properties in terms of bandwidth, sensitivity, dynamic range and robustness compared to state-of-the-art systems. They will be used to capture the unsteady pressure fluctuations underneath the turbulent boundary layer and for wall shear stress measurements in next-generation large passenger aircraft. Their designs will be optimised for wind-tunnel testing and flight testing applications.
