Project description
Addressing nanotechnology safety issues
Nanotechnology is demonstrating enormous potential in a wide range of industrial sectors. However, it also brings health and safety risks for both humans and the environment. In this context, the EU-funded DIAGONAL project will develop strategic business development knowledge and tools to implement in industries working with multicomponent (advanced) nanomaterials (MCNMs) and high aspect ratio nanomaterials (HARNs). It will study specific hazard and exposure properties displayed during the life cycle of MCNMs and HARNs. The focus will be on the release rate and fate of nanomaterial constituents and their interactions with other particles and the environment. The results will be useful for risk management guidelines, tools and strategies to increase nanomaterials’ safety.
