Project description
European standardised framework for recovered timber
The demolition sector generates a large amount of timber products that could be reused directly or recycled for structural purposes, thus contributing to circular economy principles as well as to carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation. However, at present, there is no established recovered timber market due to the lack of a standardised classification system. The EU-funded RECOWERS project will develop a grading system for recovered timber and create a European standardised framework. Innovative solutions using non-destructive grading procedures and testing techniques, such as infrared thermography will be developed, and the grading procedure will be validated in companies. The grading system will be presented to the European committees of standardisation of timber construction and circular economy to publish a standard.
