Intelligent lightweight design of multiscale lattice structures made from porous materials

Integrated material–structure design (IMSD) combines materials engineering with structural engineering to better achieve targeted structural performance. Lattice structures consisting of repeating units of webs or trusses are among the key areas of application. These structures can lend strength and flexibility to lightweight materials. With the support of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, the ROFiDMS project is developing advanced methods to optimise the design of multiscale lattice structures built from porous materials using additive manufacturing. The methods will support IMSD addressing specific challenges for the first time to meet multiple performance criteria.
