Spoken language articulation planning
There are several long-standing questions about the basic underpinnings of human speech. The main questions are still related to the nature of the mental representation of speech sounds, the goals of movement and the processes for planning and producing speech articulation. The EU-funded PlanArt project will undertake a pioneering, systematic attempt to determine which theoretical assumptions about each of these components are needed to obtain an adequate account of human speech production behaviour. It will test predictions of theoretical alternatives through innovative experiments and compare computational models based on core theoretical assumptions. It will also develop a flexible platform allowing parallel implementation and testing of competing theoretical assumptions.
