Laser digital transfer of 2D materials enabled photonics: from the lab 2 the fab

Project description

Optimising and standardising 2D material growth and wafer-scale integration

To unlock the full potential of graphene and other 2D materials, researchers need to develop growth and transfer technologies that can be effectively deployed at scale. These growth and transfer methods should preserve the pristine quality of the materials and enable integration into the wafer using a standardised process. The EU-funded L2D2 project plans to deliver the first scalable digital process for growing and integrating graphene and prominent 2D materials into silicon photonics and CMOS-compatible substrates on demand. Researchers will leverage green and solvent-free methods to transfer single-layer materials in a single step. Preserving the same quality in wafer-scale processing constitutes a real breakthrough, affecting all industries where graphene research could make a real impact.
