Project description
Beyond audiovisual - training for a tactile internet
Whether it’s performing distant medical procedures, making remote repairs, or even choosing a new fabric for purchase, enabling humans to touch and manipulate objects via the internet can lead to a new age of global skills sharing. To spur the development of this tactile internet (TI), the EU-funded TOAST project will train researchers in subjects including haptics, teleoperation, haptic communication, networking, edge computing, machine learning and human perception. TOAST will do this by creating a new education programme for early-stage researchers that includes luminaries from academia and industry, enabling new remote training and experiments. The project will also create a career network to help graduates with employment. The goal is to ensure Europe becomes the leader in developing TI technology.
