Project description
Advancing road safety in African countries
Road safety is a major issue in Africa; twenty percent of global road deaths occur there. The EU-funded AfroSAFE project will promote the Safe System modus operandi within road safety work in African countries. The project will introduce local practitioners and decision-makers to the pioneered knowledge and practices within road safety management based on Safe System principles. They will be supported through knowledge sharing, tools, and methods for road safety improvement—tailored to African conditions. The project will also map existing regulations, procedures, methods, and tools within all five pillars of road safety, develop recommendations for improvements including vulnerable road users’ needs, and run pilots and demonstrations.
