Project description

Decarbonising and optimising energy systems with renewables and sector coupling

Carbon reduction is a key factor in alleviating climate change. This involves shifting existing energy systems to renewable and low carbon energy sources. The EU-funded SENERGY NETS project will demonstrate the technical and economic viability of multi-energy systems in the heating and cooling, power and gas sectors that rely on local renewable sources, using relevant infrastructure and business models. It will develop toolkits and platforms to improve planning of district heating and cooling, also allowing distribution grids to integrate with other sectors. These systems will initially be tested in phases and evaluated at three pilot sites and two follow-up case studies across Europe, thus paving the way for the eventual transition to greener energy systems.
