Project description
Enhancing certification schemes and labels for a sustainable bio-based economy
As Europe transitions to a bio-based economy, many different certification schemes and labels (CSLs) and regulations have emerged. CSLs that are effective and robust will help address problems encountered with public regulation and close policy gaps. The EU-funded HARMONITOR project aims to enhance CSLs’ effectiveness in various EU bioeconomy sectors. This will reinforce their use as a co-regulation instrument as part of the EU bioeconomy policy framework. It will also set up and validate a participative review platform concept that enables CSLs to find shared characteristics and to cooperate when operating in bio-based value chains within and across EU borders. This will be done by exchanging information and promoting best practices.
