Public Health in Transition. Health Care at the dawn of the Habsburg Empire (1918–1924)

Project description

Public Health in the post-Habsburg national states

The national states formed following the collapse of the Habsburg Empire at the end of World War One inherited, among others, its health care system. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions PH in Transition project will investigate the public health system in the national states that seceded from the multinational Habsburg Empire during and after its dissolution. The project will analyse how the health institutions dealt with epidemic diseases and mental illnesses caused by the war and geopolitical upheavals from the summer of 1918 until the middle of 1924. PH in Transition will use as a case study the macro-area between the former imperial capital city, Vienna, the main Slovenian urban centre Ljubljana, and the main Habsburg port-city, Trieste.
